Power over Ethernet, or more generally Power over Data Line, refers to standards for using the same cable for power and data transmission. While unused data pairs were still available for this in 4-pair Cat.5 cables, data and direct current are now transmitted via the same cores at higher data rates. For low power (15W), most cables from the S-CATLine family are suitable for this when laid freely.
For higher power classes (currently up to 100W) or installation in cable bundles, the heating caused by the current must be taken into account. Here we recommend the largest possible cross-sections.
