A 400 Hz cable assembly is a pre-assembled cable designed to connect an aircraft to a 400 Hz Ground Power Unit (GPU) or other aircraft ground power equipment. Why is 400 Hz used in aircraft electrical systems?
It combines the appropriate 400 Hz cable with matching connectors and connection components to provide a complete, ready-to-connect solution.

Applications and Technical Features of 400 Hz Cable Assemblies
Our 400 Hz cable assemblies are used for ground power supply in aircraft and helicopters. They are supplied worldwide to manufacturers of Ground Power Units (GPUs), frequency converters, airports, airlines, ground handling companies and armed forces. Depending on the application, our cable assemblies are designed for different ground power requirements and can be customised in terms of cable type, length, connectors and connection components.

The 400 Hz cables used are based on robust cable designs for demanding ground power applications. Depending on the cable type and application, they feature low-capacitance insulation, an abrasion-resistant PUR jacket, high mechanical strength and the flexibility required for mobile applications.
The high abrasion resistance of selected 400 Hz and 28 V DC GPU cables has been demonstrated by independent tests according to UL 2556:2021 and JIS C3005:2014. In a comparative test, the SAB PUR GPU cable reached 60,200 cycles before failure, while an H07RN-F rubber cable reached 5,108 cycles.

For flexible applications, selected 400 Hz cables are designed for a minimum bending radius of 6 × the cable diameter and a temperature range of -40 °C to +90 °C. They are halogen-free, oil- and weather-resistant and resistant to fuels such as petrol, diesel and Jet A-1. Detailed technical specifications depend on the selected cable design and application.
